Hi all;

Thanks to all that read and replied to the original post about this set. I
started a new thread because the old one is getting old and there have been
some new developments. I was on the set again today, and on the 900 number to
RCA. I don't think their advice was the greatest, but that's an opinion I'm not
yet qualified to render. The whole direction has changed (I hate it when that
happens), so here I am again.

Starting at the beginning, immediate shutdown, but what I didn't realize is
that these sets take a couple of seconds to turn on when they are working
properly. I had forgotten this, in light of this: the set attempts to start
immediately, so many of my former conclusions are invalid. Even if this set
does remember that it was on, it should still take a couple of seconds to turn
on when plugged in. It does not.

When this thing comes on when first powered up, I'm pretty sure it should not.
I turned my attention to the uProcessor and the plot thickened.

First of all there is no data at the data and clock lines to the SIP deflection
board. I go back to the multiplexer chip and find it is not putting out to the
EPROM either, so I go to the pins going to the micro and find tiny square waves
riding atop about 5V. This has an ordered pattern, completely unlike power
supply ripple would be. The frequency is steady, and there is one pulse missing
repetitively. This is not power supply ripple, yet it is not satisfying digital
levels. It is (IIRC) about 1V off the top, definitely not enough to communicate
digitally. (at least here)

Clock is there, Vcc is there, I guess I need more info.

Thing that bothers me most is that it tries to start immediately. This must
mean something, or is it normal ?

Thanks for taking a look at my wierd (_|_) problems and for anything you got.
