automatic power-windows "up" kit

I'm sure ive seen this somewhere, but neither jaycar nor DSE seem to have
one now ..

Basically what i'm after, is a kit that will automatically put my power
windows up when i turn the engine off .. I know there are a lot of alarms
out there with this function built in, and a lot of modern cars come with
the option, but I'm more than happy with my cars integrated security system
(integrated into the key), so would be looking for a kit to do it for me ..

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

I got one from someone a few years ago, when I got my car, and then had it
triggered by the door locking on the drivers side.

I don't think there is a kit for them, although it would be quite simple. I
thought Jaycar did sell these...

A relay that is activated when the engine is turned off and any window
isn't up.

it will then (if closed) have to activate the "up" button(s) as needed
- and also supply power to the mechanism if the car is like mine where
the power windows can only be activated when the ignition is in the
"on" position.

doing this via this simple electro-mechanical method should be pretty
straightforward, effective and cheap

The Cyclops WIN-004 window lift kit will do this.
It will wind the windows up when you lock the car with the factory remotes.

The difficulty is that anything which closes electric windows
automagically MUST detect any obstruction and reverse the window.

As it is now, several children are killed each year in North America by
electric windows. Typically what happens, is Mom leaves the keys in the
ignition and the toddler in the car with the window down whilst she
chats to someone outside the car. Toddler climbs up to peer out the
window and steps on armrest, activating the switch, and the window comes
up under toddler's throat.

This is why many cars such as the Camry now have a switch which must be
pulled up to raise the window.

nothing that I know of commercially available does this...however the
'off' trigger is usually a rise in current draw as the window closes
fully...or encounters an obstruction
so they wont kill you...but you will be stuck for a while

AFAI can see the only way to detect and reverse would be to install
limit switches in the door so the controller knows that the obstruction
is not the same as a closed window
BMW used to have limit switches in the door but I never thought to jam
something in the window of one and see what happened
Of course, the more complex a system is, the less reliable it is...

The ones that I have installed do that, I don't know how, but if there is an
obstruction it will keep trying to wind up for a short while, and then
stop...

I've had dealings with two types, one type using motor current
detection and the other looked at brush noise.

The current detect ones had a delay to allow for startup current
and took a little while to realise when the window was closed.
The brush noise ones were much more responsive and would
work on anything.

I've closed windows, sunroofs, even an old cadilac convertable
using the noise detect ones.
The current detect types had problems with the different kinds
of windows. Typically there is quite a difference between the
amount of power required to close an old mercedies/bmw
window and the power required for a late model japaneese
window.

The current detection cutout threshold not being adjustable would
be a pain, the brush noise worked with anything.
Some other issues with the current sense resistor not handling
heavy loads and dropping out before the window was fully closed.

The noise detect ones were also syncronised so that only one of the
four outputs were active at a time. This was good for the
convertable because the roof had to be on before winding up the
windows. It was fun to watch but that was ten years ago.

Never seen any that back off if they think that they're jammed though.

I cant see why you cant install a relay set with a timer to power up your
windows with a ground or +ve signal from your current alarm. As you could
use the contacts similar to the switch on the drivers door the inbuilt
limits should kick in without damaging your window motors.
Most currect alarms have either +ve or ground signals on setting the alarm.

Good luck with your effort.

(PS Not sure if OEM systems have any outputs at all! You may have to use one
of the current outputs like the horn output or similar.)
