Australian mu metal supplier

Hi All,

We're after some mu metal sheet of approximately 1mm thickness and are
having trouble tracking down an Australian supplier. Anyone know where we
can locate it?

AEM Unicore used to list it as a core
material for their transformers, but their website
seems recently dead to me since I bookmarked
it a month ago.

Just did a bit more 'googling' this morning and found that RFI Industries
sell it. Speaking with them they will be able to supply the small quantities
we're after ex-stock.

Thanks Pete, I may need some later for a project, do you need it
for a magnetic shield or for a transformer?. I understand it may need
annealing after working for the correct properties.

We've had a few requests to add larger magnets to our GPS Cube datalogger
(http://www.commlinx.com.au/GPS_datalogger.htm) and found on the prototype
with larger magnets it was interfering with the inductor used for the switch
mode power-supply. The inductor sits right above the magnet because the top
of the board is kept clear for battery installation.

Not too sure about the annealing process, but we'll only be cutting it
rather than forming.

If all you want is a flat sheet to act as a flux shield from a magnet
mu-metal is not needed.

Hi Phil,

Gave that a try but it didn't seem to work all that well, anyway I have some
mu metal on order that should arrive in the next day or two so I can compare
the two. One problem is because the enclosure wasn't designed for the larger
magnet the clearance between the two is very small, with a PCB redesign it
would be fairly easy to physically seperate them further which is what we'll
do for the next revision.
