Audi Navigation system dead (Blaupunkt)

Does anyone here have any experience with the GPS Navigation system
for later Audis?

I bought a 2001 A6 with one of these in Germany in decemeber, and
during the weekend it gave up, not two months after I bought the car
:-(

It is a double ISO sized unit with RDS radio, cd changer, TV,
telephone handsfree, and everything but the navigation system works
fine.

As the navigation part appears totally dead, I'm hoping that it is
something simple.

The unit is divided into two parts, the upper is the navigation unit,
with CD drive, and the lower is the control unit for the rest.

The screen contantly says "Navigation system is activating", but
nothing more happens. The only navigation menu I can select is the
"settings" and the only item I can select is "eject cdrom", but
nothing happens if I try to activate this.

I called the swedish Blaupunkt service, and they said they ship these
to germany for repairs as the service documentation is hard to get, and
it seems it is hard to run the unit without the proper test
environment.

Ideas are most welcome.

Thomas (not too hopeful)

Hate to say it but your best bet may be with the local Audi Dealer. Many of
the components are proprietary items.

This is not something you can service without the proper test facilities,
service information, and training. There is a lot of software diags
involved. You will have to send it out.
