assura XOR from GUI

I want to be able to XOR 2 GDSII files or a GDSII file and a layout.
Assura has this capability from the command line but not from the GUI.
The following PCRs are open to add this capability to the Assura GUI:
PCR 694212
PCR 718533

If you also want this capability please let Cadence know by opening up
a SR at sourcelink.cadence.com.

GDSII/GDSII XOR has been in the DRC GUI since 3.0.6 (2003-06-04),
at least. That's the oldest release I currently have
installed.

Assura->Run DRC...->
Layout Design Source = Stream
Read Two Stream Files for Comparison

AFAIK, GDSII/DF2 (or DF2/DF2) XOR did not exist from the
command line until 3.1.2 (PCR 402209). And that is not in
the GUI, yet, I agree. But GUI GDSII/GDSII works fine and
has for quite a while now.

Putting the GDSII to GDSII comparison in the DRC form doesn't make any
sense as I am not running a DRC. I would like to see a LVL form
similar to the LVS form for doing layout to layout, stream to layout,
layout to stream, and stream to stream. The creation of this SKILL
form to allow verification designers, who only use the GUI, to access
the existing assura functionality would be a good thing.

It might not make sense to you, but it does exactly what
you originally asked for. :) Except for the df2 option,
you should submit a CSR for that.

I would like to see a LVL form
similar to the LVS form for doing layout to layout, stream to layout,
layout to stream, and stream to stream.
It's possible I don't understand what you're asking for.
Conventionally, "LVL" means "extract netlists from two
layouts and compare them", and "XOR" means "compare two
sets of layout geometry, layer-by-layer".

Two layouts can be LVL-clean but not XOR-clean, for example.

When we are doing a metal mask we need to verify that only metal has
changed and only the metal we wanted to change has changed. So, we
want to do an XOR on the current layout and the original GDSII file.
Yes, we could stream out the layout and XOR the GDSII file from the
DRC form. I guess my main point is that the UI is suboptimal and I
would like to see it improved.

It might be good to have a process whereby the guy doing the physical
verification has to sign off on every modification and OK each XOR
marker.

Yeah, I understand netlist comparison and XOR are different. I would
like the ability to do both.
