Arcam CD72 display broken

On my 18 months old CD72T the green plasma display has gone
off indefinitely... Anyone know what the problem might be?

This can be from the power supply, logic control, display driver board, or
the display tube itself. You will have to have it properly checked. The
average shop cannot service plasma displays. They would have to jobber it
out to the manufacture rep. You can bring it there yourself. Call your
dealer to find out where they are. These sets are usually serviced at the
board exchange level only. Very little component level service is done on
these. After the board change, the boards are calibrated or set-up to specs
by software and calibration instrumentation. You will not be able to service
this yourself, unless it is a simple fuse or connection somewhere. If the
fuse if blown, usually there is a much deeper fault.

Thanks for your reply. Today the display came back briefly,
before staying out again. Will have a check myself for
anything obvious. Arcam seem to have a reputation for
problems with quality control...

If you are the original owner and purchased the unit from a legitimate
dealer, then it should still be under warranty. You can contact
Audiophile Systems, the US importer at www.aslgroup.com. If you are not
in the US, you can contact Arcam directly at www.arcam.co.uk. Warranty
policies may differ in other countries.

P.S. Try the display button on the remote, since if the display is set
to off, it will only "wake up" when the unit receives a command.

It's definitely not the on/off function (remote and
everything else is working fine).

I'm in the UK so if they offer more than the mandatory 12
months warranty I'll send it in (haven't opened it yet).
