Apple Multiple Scan 20 Suddenly Dead

A few nights ago, my trusty monitor died. The screen shimmered slightly,
like a Trinitron monitor does if you tap it, and a few seconds later the
screen defocused entirely and went black with no smoke, sparks, or smells.
I pulled the plug, and a few minutes later tried to turn it back on. The
relays click and I can hear the degauss kick in, but the front panel lights
blink in a pattern that means "Replace deflection board" Since "deflection
board" seems to mean "everything but the tube", this is a bit out of my
financial league. Any ideas as to what might cause this failure?

Thanks

Andrew

Something's shorted, I'd start by checking the horizontal output transistor
and power supply, there could also be a number of parts between the two that
failed. You'll need a decent multimeter and soldering equipment minimum.
