Apple 20" monitor troubles

Hello!

I am having some troubles with my 20" ColorSync Apple monitor (which
seems to be in fact a Sony Trinitron monitor). When you first power it
up, image is about 15% smaller (both horizontal and vertical) than
usual. But it slowly 'grows' to normal size. It takes about 5 minutes to
reach correct size.

It seems to me as an HV problem. What do you think?. What would you check?

Thanks and best regards,

JOSE

There are some components most likely in the power supply, and or HV
generator section that have become thermo sensitive. With proper
troubleshooting of these sections, these components can be determined, and
then replaced. There are a number of types that can cause this, therefore
there is no point to guess at them, and change the wrong ones.

If you are not experienced at TV and monitor service, an intelligent
decision would be to take the monitor to a service centre that can do this
type of repair for you.

Well, I have repaired some hundred of electronic items, ranging from
oscilloscopes to amateur radio gear so I consider myself able to get
into this repair :). Perhaps my question was too broad... I thought
somebody could have seen a similar trouble with a similar unit and could
direct me to some suspicious components (it could be a generic fault).
But, so far, it seems it is not that way and I should work in more
general troubleshooting.

Sincerely, I wanted to save some time as now I have lots of work in
other items and that monitor is seldom used (but, OTOH, it is a really
nice unit... when it works properly ;-)! )

I will let you know what I find.

Best regards,

JOSE
