Anyone know who makes the 256x160 graphic LCD on the Garmin

I've got a Garmin GPS 5, and I'd like to know who makes the graphic LCD that
it uses. I've been searching for such a 256x160 dots, compact, extended
temperature range LCD online and haven't run across anything having that
combination of characteristics. If I get desperate enough, I'll take my unit
apart and see if the manufacturer's name is on the LCD, but I'd like to
avoid that if I can.

Did you try to call Garmin and ask them? From experience I found many of
these displays in these types of products to be from Hitachi, and Sharp.
There are a number of them now being custom made in China by various
contractors. Many of the manufactures put out tenders with specifications,
and then look at the bids. The go for the lowest bidder, that can give them
the best quality for what they want. Many of these displays are custom
manufactured.

Good suggestion, I'll try that. Thanks for the reply.
