Anyone heard again of a maker named "BEST"?

Hi all,

I recently bought a very cheap DVD player and I am trying
to locate the maker web site. It is a chinese company named
"BEST". Anyone ever heard about it?

This is one of the many thousands of mass contractor names that are put on
low end products. I have even seen this on so-called disposable computers!

I think you should forget about this one...

a SAMPO dvd player...

These may well be a Sampo player, although it's the first we at Area
450 knew about it - see
http://www.area450.com/thesampozone/players/dvd5000.htm. Certainly the
packaging is identical to the Compacks DVD5000 player sold in the UK,
the only difference between the two being the fact the Best player has
karaoke inputs. There's an article (in Greek) at

Can the original poster tell me (1) whether there's a website address
on the carton (there was on the Compacks DVD5000 carton), (2) what
information is shown on the back of the player, particularly the
information that says MODEL NO, SERIAL NO (just quote the first two
numbers) and importantly WHERE it was made - this would be extremely
helpful in determining whether it is a Sampo.

There should also be a region hack for this player - try this :

Power on your player and your TV
Press SETUP on your remote
Key in 8,8,8,8 on your remote, followed by the >>l button
A new menu option will appear in the SETUP MENU page called VERSION
Use the cursor keys to move down to that menu and then press PLAY
The REGION CODE menu entry will be the first one you can go down to -
press the right arrow cursor key
Use the cursor keys to cycle round to "0" (all-region)
Press SETUP again - job done

This information would be very helpful to us at Area 450.
