hello folks,

I have 2 old Magnavox TV's here at home that I'm fixing.
They both need eeproms and Philips won't sell them to me because
I'm not a business.

They gave me the number of a guy here locally that supposedly
will order them for me. but, he's not returning my calls.
What is up with this ?!

I'm hoping that one of you may have these old eeproms
in a drawer somewhere or, know of a dealer that will sell them.
The numbers on them are X2402P and the other, X2444P.
They're out of a RP2590 and aRJ5540
respectively. I'd rather pay you the $ rather than Philips anyway.

thanks in advance,
Jesse

Shane,
You can purchase them both from www.tritronicsinc.com
They both have been substituted with newer versions of the parts.
The X2404P has been subbed with a 24C04 (common IC)
Philips part number 483520917058

The other one X2444P has been subbed with a 24C02 (also common)
Philips part number 483520988104

Good Luck,
Bill Jr

BTW, I can't remember ever having to replace a failed eprom for either of
these sets. (other than lightning damage)

Same here, EEPROM rarely fails unless it's been rewritten upward of
million times. I would try having the EEPROM repogrammed first before
buying new ones.

To reply, change digi.mon to tds.net

Thanks guys for the replies,

How do I reprogram these eeproms ?
Do I need that service remote ?

Could you let me know where to find information about
reprogramming EEPROM"s please

Or information about EEPROM's in general

Gratefully - Mo.

Have seen several of these go bad over the years; symptoms are TV won't
remember any customer settings after being shut off.

Well, the new eeproms fixed one set.

That eeprom must have been taken out when the filter cap for the stndby voltage
went bad.
When I replaced the cap the set came on
but with no channel memory and no sound.

The other set still has no sound even with a new eeprom. Back to the drawing
board on that one.

Here's the clincher...Bill, in an ealier post, said that the eeprom crossed to
a 24C04. The same ones used in
Thompson CTC chassis !
I had a couple of those laying around
in a drawer myself. Well, it fixed one of the sets.

Thanks for all your help.
Jesse

What's the model number of the one you need to get fixed?
I've got the schematics at work and it may well outline a procedure for
setting the defaults.

Cheers,
Bill Jr
