Anybody have the Magic Decoder Ring to take apart this remot

This JVC remote works fine except for the "6" and "9" keys. They
want about $40 plus shipping for a new one, and I just hate to spend
that when cleaning the contacts would fix it. But I can't get it
apart.

I found a screw under the batteries, and took it out, but that
didn't loosen anything up. Anyone have experience taking one of
these apart?

It's most likely snap together.

I think you slide the back half down from the front half. then you can
seperate or maybe they snap together.

Remote control cases are usually of a clamshell type. They have small
"latches" molded into the rims of the halves, and snap together when
assembled. You will likely have to use a small flat screwdriver or the tip
of a butter knife to pry the halves apart.

If you carefully inspect it, you will find these latches. There may be
like 2 or 3 per side. If you push on the correct half of the shell
where the hook is they will pop off easily. Pushing on the ridge side
makes it difficult. Otherwise it is sort of brute force. Try not to
break it.

Ok, I finally got it done. I wasn't able to apply enough
force from the outside to get the halves apart without the
case rim giving way, so I ended up getting out my Dremel
Mototool (the world's most useful tool), mounted a cutting
wheel, and cut out a window inside the battery compartment.
Then I just inserted a screwdriver and forced the halves
apart.

And sure enough, the "6" and "9" buttons had a bunch of crud
on them. From the structure of the remote, it looks like
the crud had to have been there at assembly.

It works fine now.

sometimes they hide screws under labels. It prolly just snaps together
though.
Their tougher than u think.
Dont give up on it...if its not working properly then its gotta come apart,
break or not.
