I'm looking for a way to try out uC on the cheap, since I'm not sure I'll
stick with it as a hobby. I chose the AVR family over the PIC, but it was a
tight race in my mind.

The cats meow for the AVR would be the STK500, but I would hate to pop for
$90 and then just shelve it after a couple of months.

My ultimate design goal would be a temperature controller with a local
panel push-button and LCD read-out as well as an interface with a PC to do
the same. For now, I just want to try sample code and write my own in ASM
and C to blink a few LED's.

Thanks,

Todd K.

Check out the AVR Butterfly. Comes with a temp sensor, LCD display &
Pushbutton and is programmable through a serial port. ( no programmer) $20

Expect at least a moth delay if you order from Futurlec... they take
ages to ship.

I wouldn't order from them again.
