The LM393 would be an inexpensive A/D. If you wantjust for general purpose, no need too expensive.

Absolutely. High speed, two bit parallel A/D.Larry Brasfield wrote:

Two with a bit of resistor trickery. One of the comparators references"Rob Gaddi" <rgaddi@bcm.YUMMYSPAMtmc.edu> schreef in bericht

Two bit or one bit?
I think he was being facetious. It's a comparator, which will give you oneLarry Brasfield wrote:

ST Microelectronics version is a quarter. So you could say it's either"Rob Gaddi" <rgaddi@bcm.YUMMYSPAMtmc.edu> schreef in bericht

Avnet lists the Fairchild LM393 at $0.125, which is one bit -- but the
Linear makes some that are in the "not too expensive" range. They aren'tjust for general purpose, no need too expensive.

exactly cheap though.
There is one built into some of the PIC and Cygnal micros. If you need an
ADC and a micro this is worth looking at.

I think he was being facetious. It's a comparator, which will give
you one
bit of analog to digital conversion. If the signal is less than the
reference, the output is 0. If the signal is higher than the
reference,
the output is 1.
The point was, we need much more information, i.e., a much more
rigorous
specification as to the requirements.
