Another Problem With Multiband Radio -- Please Help...

Hello everyone. Merry Christmas to all you and your families! I have
another problem now that was my doing. I wanted to check on the other side of
the board inside to see if there were any cold solder joints, and I had to take
the Tuning knob off the string. In the process of doing that, I managed to
break the string because I couldn't get it tight enough for the knob to turn
the string. Could anyone give me any advice on how many turns around the knob
and how you turn it? I know I can fix the string for the time being until I can
get some more tuning string, but how, how many turns, and which way around the
knob? The tuning mechanism uses two wheels about as big as a cup if that helps.

I know a schematic would really help, but I can't find one anywhere. Any help
would be VERY much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

This is super hard to advise over an email. If you tore the string, you may
need a new dial cord. This is still available from many of the electronic
suppliers. You may be able to get away with using the material type fishing
line. I prefer to order the correct type of cord.

I have used 2 or 3 turns on the tuning shaft, depending on what I found to
work the best in the particular radio.

Maybe if you bring the radio to a service shop that repairs a lot of radios,
they may do this for you for a reasonable price. It may cost you about 30
minutes of the tech's time.
