An unprecedented heat streak scorched the southwest in July. In Phoenix, Arizona, air temperatures reached 119 degrees Fahrenheit on July 25. Strong, high-pressure atmospheric conditions created a heat dome, trapping sweltering heat over the southern U.S.

Meanwhile in Beijing the city was inundated by a 400 year flood, it may take a month for the waters to recede, and even longer to repair the damage and clean up the toxic residue. The Chinese people are tired and worn out.
