Help!

Can somebody tell me the specific name of the equipment that would be used to
analyze a cassette tape that's been altered?

What type of business would provide this type of service?

TIA

This is a very difficult thing to analyse, if the changes were done very
well. Probably any of the high end facilities that do audio editing for
music and commercial productions may have a chance. The cost would be very
high, because of the time and personal involved. Many of these types of
places charge a few hundred dollars or more per hour for their work.

It requires special forensic software, usually only available to law
enforcement etc...
You might be able to obtain this software tho', been awhile since I
worked in law enforcment.
Try calling around to a private investigation firm in your area.
Also try your local or state law enforcement agencies.
If they aren't cooperative give the bureau a try.
You'll just have to be honest and tell them what you want it for.
While audio analysis wasn't my speciality(I worked in forensic
photography and trace analysis) the software that analyized magnetic
media looked for the tale tell artifact(inauduble spikes) that
indicated edit points or stop and start artifacts genrally produced by
analog recording heads.
