I wonder where the electricity will come from. Large-scale generating
and distribution systems take a long time to build. And need fuel.

I suppose you stand by a river and wonder where the water comes from, or stand by train tracks and wonder where the trains come from.

As everyone else here understands already, we have a great deal of under utilized electrical generation in most parts of the world. In addition we are adding both wind and solar power generation.

While the under informed are predicting massive lithium shortages, I\'m not seeing anyone predicting shortages of electric generation.

Here are some numbers if the math is not too much for you. The average miles driven in the US is 14,000 a year. That\'s about 38 miles per day or 9.5 kWh using 4 miles/kWh as a typical BEV consumption. I can plug my BEV into a 120V outlet for less than 10 hours a night to charge this much. Yeah, at night when the electrical generating capacity is very, very underutilized.

What\'s even better about charging BEVs, is the fact that, to use the term which is applied to generation that is started up quickly, BEV charging is dispatchable, in this case meaning the charge time is typically flexible. Driving 40 miles a day means your battery will hold up for a number of days, allowing you to postpone charging until renewable power is in excess supply or the prices are low. I expect a means of coordinating charging with the availability of power will become the norm, no matter where you are plugged in. You will tell your car your expected driving for the next few days and the car will work to accommodate that. We may find this turns into an electronic auction yielding low prices for consumers and evening out the electrical demand for the suppliers.

The increase in generating capacity in the US that would be needed to

Actually, there is a very significant shortage of energy in Europe -
made worse by the current Russian war in Ukraine. There is a big
shortage of electricity predicted in coming years, especially as more
and more things are being electrified. There is also a shortage of
capacity on grids, which is a problem when the generation and usage are
out of sync.

Maybe you\'re find in your half of the world (which is great). But
electricity prices have soared here - with peaks at ten times the normal
rate of a couple of years ago. It is causing widespread disruption. In
the UK, families are trying to choose between heating their houses or
eating. Here in Norway, where electricity has traditionally been so
cheap that people used to have their electric heating on all the time
and regulate the temperature by opening windows, we recently had a short
period where the price per mile was almost as high for electric cars as
petrol cars.

I think the situation will improve - Germany is reversing its plans to
shut down its nuclear plants, and Finland has just brought a big new one
online. There are more wind and solar generators going up all the time.
We\'ll get there, but there /is/ a shortage.

(I don\'t think electric cars are the main cause, though they add to it -
and they can be a big issue for grid peak usages. Climate change with
cold winters and disrupted rainfall, phasing out coal, and now trying to
reduce gas usage are all bigger factors.)

What\'s so great about desert with respect to PV? Maine is almost as good
as Texas for hours of insolation, it\'s at the same latitude as the
French Riviera. The panels can run cooler, too.

I\'d prefer they not shit up the desert West with big farms, just stick
them on top of buildings or in fields, median strips of highways, old
landfills (they already do that one a lot here.) A lot of New England
has been clear-cut ages ago.

They US is basically a bunch of robbers
They took so many countries by force, invaded those, forced government changes,
Starting with - yes- the Native Americans.
bombing Vietnam, invading Iraq, there is no end to it.

And what motivates it is the you-ash dollars
The Military Industrial Complex that needs and exports war so it can sell, and has you pay taxes for it,
makes double profit that way and has YOU WORK for it!
That is also what is happening in Ukrain, NATO is a big customer of US military junk (like the F35 now being sold to Germany).
Sure, competition in a ahem capitalist country drives innovation, all true
but you guys are way out of control with you war industry,

I can clearly see a nuclear pre-emptive strike being an option considered by an united rest of the world
Look at how small that N America is compared to Russia + China + Europe + Middle East + South America.
US is digging its own grave sanctioning others
Your idiot fanatic war mongering US military Complex puppet suffering from amnesia leader ByeThen uses the centuries old game of creating a common enemy to distract from his -
and the system\'s failures.

I do not think so, your food and eating habits are mostly copies from other places.
As to google (search), it is getting worse trying to be smart.
After ten minutes googling yesterday for some word and getting suggestions that had nothing to do with it
I went to Bing and found what I looked for in a few seconds
That was not the first time I had to escape to Bing.

Look dude, my father, who was a journalist and wrote things critical of the Germans in WW2 and was in the resistance
was put in a German concentration camp, and freed by the Russians in 1945.

Nuclear power is a real option, probably the only one.
Here in Europe nuclear has been named green now...

US robbers continue to grab stuff from others, \'freeze\' funds and resources,
When Nixon decoupled the US dollar from gold it was actually because it was no longer worth the paper it was printed on.
Now the situation is much worse, and China Russia India and some Middle East countries are changing to Yuan.
Killing Swift backfires as sanctions always do.

US depth is ever growing and stealing others stuff cannot make up for that amount in any way.

This time nuclear...

It\'s an easy calculation. 14,000 miles per year, 4 m/kWh, 270 million light vehicles. 945,000,000 MWh vs 4,000,000,000 MWh total. I think that comes to about 24%, no? Add in the semi truck fleet and it will be a bit higher, but I don\'t have a feel for how much. Hard to imagine another 25% though.

The spare capacity at night probably is around 25% of the total daily kWh. Because of the intermittent nature of renewable energy, the flexibility of charging BEVs allows for a better match between the two. So many BEVs can be charged from renewable power sources which will be built.

The point is, neither the US nor the EU need to worry with adding power generation to keep the BEV fleet charged.

No.

Mexican troops killed Geronimo\'s family. Then Geronimo spent the next 3
decades killing & torturing Mexicans and other Indians along what is now
our southwestern border. Geronimo died of old age and pneumonia in a US
Army hospital. Mexico never owned or even controlled anything north of the
Rio Grande.

America was anything but Mr Rogers Neighborhood before Europeans arrived.
The word \"savage\" was not taken from thin air. Some Comanche torture
methods are interesting, conceivably promoted by their abuse of peyote.

If Europeans had not settled and developed this land, some other advanced
civilization would have landed (like Asians, before 1941). Could have been
MUCH worse for native Indians and our neighbors to the south and north.
