Alcatel 1000ADSL Modem Schematic

Hello,

Anyone know where I can get a schematic for a telco supplied Alcatel
1000ADSL DSL modem?

The modem will not see the phone line. Took it apart and looked over
everything on both sides of the board with a magnifying glass (HD SMD)
and I don't see anything obvious as to what the problem is. It's not
the line as a Westel modem works. Logged into the Alcatel and checked a
few things and it says that it cannot see any DMT from the line. Modem
has a number of custom ASICs in it. I'm hoping it's something in the
telco interface because I'd hate to have to go call the telco and pay
the $150 for a new modem.

These companies never release schematics, or sell any replacement
components. They themselves do not service the originals. During warranty,
they change the complete unit, or the circuit board. The only thing you can
do is look for cold connections, or something obvious.

If you evaluate the labour cost for the time, and the cost of the parts to
fix these modems, nobody would want to pay for it. This is why they do not
support servicing them.

That's just great. Another throw away item. I already looked for some
of the obvious things and didn't see anything. I was hoping that
somewhere someone would have a schematic. I guess it was to no avail.

Okay, Daniel, here's a tip with modems: the weakest link is the
interface chips. These are usually designed to give up their little
lives to save the rest of the circuit. Accordingly, it might be a good
idea to check the optoisolator chips first. This is easy to do,
basically a diode on one side and a phototransistor on the other: i.e.
light the diode and measure conductivity on the phototransistor. That's
all that is reasonable beyond really complicated troubleshooting.
