Greetings,
Apologies for the thread appearing in this NG of DVD to DVD copying and my
replies to a couple of posters..some people who don't seem to have basic
knowledge of copyright law really get under my skin..*sighs*..
Anyway, I'm currently faced with a wierd problem involving an Akai VS-J700 6
head stereo VCR. The last few weeks has seen a power problem but I'm not
sure where to look to get it fixed.
Problem 1 starts with the timer - after setting, the unit will go to standby
mode and wait until the recording time is reached. However, when the unit
turns itself on to being recording, it then powers off a second or two after
it turns itself on, taking the front panel display with it, making it look
like it was unplugged. The only way I've been able to solve this is to
unplug the unit for a good half hour then plug it back in, where the power
will return to the unit and operate as normal. (plugging the unit back in
after only 5 to 10 minutes is not enough as it will come on for a second
then die out again completely).
This same problem happens even when no tape is loaded - after being on
standby, I would turn the unit on, only to find it has switched itself off
and again, I have to unplug it, wait 30 minutes, and plug it back in again
to get it running.
Tonight brought about a new problem I hadn't noticed before. The unit was
operating normally, and at that time I was fast forwarding a tape (not in
picture-search mode), and the unit just quit as it was forwarding - same
problem. It had turned itself off completely and again I had to unplug it
and wait then plug it back in again.
Is the problem this is having worth fixing or is it easier to simply just
bin it and buy a new VCR? It's just entered it's 5th year and not once has
it been in for repair work as all that time it's operated flawlessly.
Thanks!
Regards,
Marcus
