Aiwa ?? Rotary pot problems ?

Hi;

I've got a Aiwa AV-D30U (stereo reciever) with a psycho volume control.

The display indicates the the volume is increasing as you advance the knob,
when it reaches 4 or 5, and you keep advancing, the volume then starts
to decrease. I first cleaned the rotary pot, resoldered the connections still,
no difference. Funny thing, another Aiwa CD combo has just come in with
the same problem.!!
I hope it's not a upc problem, that will kill this job and that one too.
Is the rotary pot bad ? Has anyone seen this before ??

Thanks in advance,
Rick

I have seen some of those where the Volume control must be replaced. They
simply wear out.

I've seen the pots be scratchy, but if the volume consistently drops as you
increase to a certain point, I'd suspect the electronic volume control IC.
These days, though, the volume controls are sometimes buried in larger
DSP-type chips.
