troubleshooting an AIWA HV-F85AE VCR,
I've found a shorted compnent I am not able to identify.
It is IC304 and seems to be a voltage reference chip (three pin, TO-92
like). It is marked "NEC u574 014L".
I was not able to find it on www.necel.com .
Google didn't help as well.

Can anybody help me?
Thanks.

How about contacting an Aiwa distributor and asking them to research "IC304"
for this Aiwa model?

In the U.S an Aiwa distributor is Union Electronics

Look carefully.
Does it have two of the legs connected together? Made that way?
Sounds like a 33 volt zener type stabilizer used for tuning voltage.
Might just be a uPC574, since they like to leave off some of the letters.

Good Luck,
Bill Jr

BINGO!!
It really is a uPC574 from NEC. It a temperature compensated sneer typically
used to stabilize the tuning voltage.
I have successfully replaced it with a Philips TDA1550.
Thank you very much.
Ciao.
