especially at the instructions for cleaning the lens.

Very common fault. Dirty or warn laser lens. Stereo's in homes with
smokers are more prone to wear and dirt. Perform a proper clean (don't
bother with cleaing CD's. If still faulting, then replace the sony
kss240a laser eye.
