Affordable LCD's

After an unsatisfactory search through Digikey,

I was wondering if anyone knew where to find affordable LCD screens.

Backlight preferred, mainly used for text.

Desired specs (can be slightly different):
Dot Matrix

Text 16x4 or Pixel 80 x 32
..55 x .55 Dot size in mm.

Preferrably plugs into a computer (LPT1) parallel port or can be wired to do
so.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks,

What's the price range? Do you need to be able to order the exact same
part (mechanically speaking) for some set period of time?

If this is small volume, try www.alltronics.com, www.mpja.com,
www.jameco.com, or other dealers who mostly handle surplus parts.

Doesn't really meet any of his requirements, as it needs to be fed a
constantly-generated NTSC signal, it's color (which he didn't specify)
and much too high-resolution, with pixels that are too small.

Have a look at www.EarthLCD.com, they have lots of stuff at good prices. Their
character LCDs seem to require some kind of controller, but the prices are all
in $10-$30 range (there is a 4x24 device for $25), so you can probably afford
to add a controller to the mix without breaking the bank. There are also a
number of serial displays, but they are more expensive ($40-$100).

You can also try www.crystalfontz.com, other places can be found via assiduous
Googling.
