adding connectivity to metal

Hello,

I have a layout which was done for me by a layout person who for some
wierd reason didn't use VXL for the entire time. The result is when I
click a piece of metal and query it, it more often than not does not
have connectivity information. Also there are places where there is,
but it is wrong (probably from copying a piece of metal in virtuoso,
not virtuoso-XL).

Is there an easy way to have VXL go through a layout and fix the
connectivity information on all the metal?

Without this, it takes me much longer trying to review parts of a
layout when I have to start tracing wires around to figure out which
net it is part of.

Thanks

Hi Dan,

Have you tried Connectivity->Update->Components and Nets from your VXL
layout?

In order for Connectivity->Update->Components and Nets to work
properly make sure the "Instance Names" of the devices/cells/pcells
match to the schematic. (EX: If the schematic symbol is M1 the layout
should be |M1) << the layout needs the "|" pipe character.

If the Connectivity->Update->Components and Nets changes the inst
names of the layout components, adds "_old" to the names undo it or
start again and turn the "update instances" button off on the VXL
options menu. It will add the _old if the cells don't come from the
VXL expected library.

Good Luck,
Tim

If all of the instance names match, try connectivity-->re-extract
layout You can then run connectiivity-->update components and
nets. Providing the pins are correct, you should get the
connectivity on the nets. If the pin connectivity is missing and you
have the text, you will need to Create-->pins from text.
