A Toxic Sea Level Rise Crisis Threatens West Oakland...

That mess can\'t be cleaned up- the place needs to be capped with bentonite and turned into a wildlife refuge- with a tall fence around it.

It\'s fill, and an earthquake liquefaction hazard too. Dredge it and
return it to the Bay.

But 10 feet rise is absurd by about a factor of 20. West coast sea
level has increased slowly since the LIA ended around 1860.

Fort Point is on solid rock so is not subsiding like the glop of West
Oakland.

What sorts of electronics do you design?

You can\'t dredge it now- it\'s full of contaminants.

Why not? Haul it out to sea in barges and let it sink 12,000 feet.

But it\'s all hype and the usual fear mongering. The real hazards to
the poor people of west Oakland are obesity, drugs, and shootings.

John Larkin can\'t get it into his head that there is about ten metres of sea level rise tied up in potentially mechanically unstable ice sheets in Greenland and in the West Antarctic ice sheet.

The problem isn\'t about it melting in situ, but rather about it sliding off into the ocean, which would raise sea levels quite quickly before the ice had drifted off towards the equator. James Hansen has pointed out that the IPCC predictions about sea level didn\'t take this risk into account.
