I haven\'t figured out what makes it go. The battery is shorted by the coil between it\'s ends which makes a magnetic field through the coil. It\'s a very low resistance so the current is high and a strong magnetic field. But I can\'t picture how this is creating a force on the battery since the magnetic lines are parallel to the battery.

Duh! I was thinking this was about making contact and forgot they are magnets. Cool, thanks.
I might have to make one of these. I\'ll need to get bare wire. My buss wire is enameled. A friend with kids would love it. The kids might like it too.
The coils will stand up better if they are wound on plastic tubes, but the movement of the coils is pretty cool.
