A question about some Capacitors

I have a friend who is a retired electrical engineer, and he asked me
to try and sell some of the capacitors he has in his basement. I have
no idea what they are worth they are:

General Electric

2200 UF--10+50%
400 VDC 450 Surge
85 C MAX ambient

He has six of them, does anyone have any idea what they are used for
and if they are worth anything?

You might look them up is a current catalog to see what new ones sell
for (try the Newark-in-one online catalog, for instance). But these
kinds of capacitors do age and are eventually pretty useless. Most
have a date code on them that shows last two digits off year and week
of that year. 9836 would be the 36th week of 1998. If yours are more
than 10 years old, they are getting worrisome. So you might derate
the price from a small discount - towards zero (hobbyist or
experimenter use, only), based on a 10 year practical lifetime.
