I recevied a Sony CDP-CX235 for service a while back with the complaint that it
would break the cd. This player holds up to 200 cd's and uses a jukebox type
retrieval mechanism. When the vertically placed cd is removed from the
carousel, a little arm lifts it into the mechanism. When the cd is removed from
the mechanism back onto the carousel, there is a little grabber arm which is
supposed to do this. However the cd sometimes slips out of the arms' pincers
and drops the disk midway between its starting and end point. Then when the
carousel rotates, the cd may still be partly inserted in the fixed mechanism
and partly in the carousel tray. The result is that the cd can be snapped like
a potato chip. I tried cleaning the pads inside the pincer. They seem similar
to the brake pads you would see on a vcr. The machine seemed to work better for
a while but then reverted to dropping the disks again. I obviously did not want
to return it to the customer again knowing that it could damage a cd
intermittently.
I now have received another Sony cd player, a CDP-CX210, with the exact same
mechanism with the exact same problem. Is the fix to this fault just to replace
the pads or is there something more involved?
Thanks for your reply.
