A good idea, but dumb questions

Hello

I'm not really in to electronics, but I've had a good idea for a phone
hack and was wondering if you guys could give me some pointers.

The idea is to tap power from my Nokia 7610's battery, modify the case,
add a switch, a bulb, and some infra-red transmitting filter
(underexposed film), and have a camera that can truly see in the dark.

My dumb questions are:
Is the power drain likely to hurt my phone or explode my cheapo, fake
battery?
Is there anything else I need to consider before getting my soldering
iron out?

A tip. Black Perspex acrylic sheet should make a good infra-red transmitting
filter, if it's still coloured with the same really dark red dye as it was
when I worked for Radiovisor Parent. They used to use it on their large
range of infra-red beams etc.

I've modded my phone, I've just got to get some ir filter in place and
I'll be ready for night vision mode!! I'm documenting my progress for
