741 DC amp how to connect

I just want to use the 741 as a simple dc amplifier, for example conecting a
sensor that generates a very small voltage, milivolts.

If I conect the sensor to the + and - inputs of the 741 and earth the
negative input to the power supply rail, that will give me a amplified
output from the 741, is this correct?

I could hook up a simple circuit obtaining maxium gain by using this
method, without any components?

Thanks Craig

** What sort of sensor ? Piezo electric?
