Hi,
In order to fix up my old (but beloved) power amp, I need two pieces each of
2SA968B and 2SC2388. I tried the Wes Component, RS Component and Fernell,
but had no luck, they stopped stocking them for awhile. Does anyone know
where I can get them or suggest transistors of later design that can replace
them? I would greatly appreciate your help.

Cheers

I can't really recommend a supplier where you are, but I think you'll find
that was a 2SC2238, not 2388.

Might help your search.....

Try Cricklewood Electronics, fax +44-20-8208 1441. If they don't have
the actual devices, they may be able to supply a suitable replacement.

I do agree with you that I might have mistaken 2SC2238B for 2SC2388. In
other words, I missed one of the two 2's and mistaken the B for an 8.

2SA968B and 2SC2388. I tried the Wes Component, ...
WES list the 2SA968 at $2.35. If the 2SC2388 is really a 2SC2238, then
WES have this for $2.75. In any case, the specs for the 2SA968 and
2SC2238 appear to be identical but complementary. Both types appear to
be TO220 packages (or similar), while the 2SC2388 looks like it comes
in a TO3 style.

Did you manage to find the NTE equivalent of 2SC2238B? Since 2SC2238B is the
complementary of 2SA968B.

Anthony

I always replace 2sa968 & 2sc2238 with 2sa1011 & 2sc2344, which are generally easy to get & are
better devices. Work well even in the most sensitive amps, such as the more flammable Sansui
units from the early 80's.
