there is a 179 with the 0603 but only a 188 with the 1608

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Perhaps if you said what you were asking about someone might tell you

Sorry. I'm talking about SMD types. Some people say 0603 package
another 1608. It's same size but different standard. What means this
numbers? I't did not looks like size.

I don't work with surface mount components much but they could be
indicator of size, I think. 0603 is imperial and 1608 is metric.
16 and 8 are just over 2.5 time 6 and 3 respectively.
IIRC 0603 is in mils and mean 6 mils x 3 mills which would make 1608 in
hundred micrometres and mean 1600 um by 800 um.

***** Unfortunately a "mil" is one thousandth of an Inch, confusion should be
avoided by using mm to indicate millimetres.

I'm understand. It's size. Not power. 1608 mean that 0.8mm wide and
1.6mm lenght.

These sizes sound awfully small. The components would be like a grain of
sand.

No, when I wrote mil I meant thousandths of an inch and not millimetres.
I've be designing boards long enough to know the differnce.
